The
Volvo Shock Absorber eliminates the bounce, roll and sway during the ride.
The device is designed to control the violent roll and pitch that can come
in your way when you try to avoid accident. Simply putting, Volvo shock
absorber is a mechanical device fabricated or engineered for smoothening out
damp or reduce a sudden shock impulse and dissipate kinetic energy. The
energy is then converted to heat outside the viscous fluid. The hydraulic
fluid on the other hand, will heat up in the hydraulic cylinders. The hot
air in the air cylinder is generally exhausted to the atmosphere.

The Volvo shocks control the extra motion of a car. These shocks or shock
absorbers provide smooth and controlled ride in inconsistent road condition
like rocky roads. Whenever the car wheel comes in contact with bump, it
causes the spring to coil and uncoil. The energy that is stored in the
spring is then transferred to the shock absorbers and from there into the
piston.
The Volvo shock absorbers are excellent in slowing down and reducing the
magnitude of vibratory motions. The motion is controlled by the
transformation of the kinetic energy of suspension movement into heat energy
that can be dissipated through hydraulic fluid. Some of the Volvo shock
absorbers are also velocity-sensitive. That is, the faster movement of the
suspension, results in the faster development of the resistance by the shock
absorber.
Types
There are different types of Shock absorbers that can be used in Volvo:
- Telescopic shock absorber
- Adjustable shock absorber
- Mono tube design
- Dual Tube design
