SUVs are used
in different ways therefore it is difficult to design any standard shock
absorber for them. It is the applications that decides the final design of
the SUV shock absorbers. Sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are used by people
for various purposes. However there are lot of challenges involved with the
design and the operation of the SUV shock absorber. The issues involved
regarding the design and the fabrication of the SUV shock absorber are
both-stability and safety.

Different types of SUV models utilize different types of shock absorbers.
In modern SUV models, front and rear suspensions with softer springs are
used. A low pressure gas shock with relatively soft valving is recommended
for smooth ride. A stiffer shock or a high pressure monotube shock would
work well on rough terrain.
Since safety is the major issue, hence the shock absorber must be checked
from time to time on a regular basis. If the shock absorber is worned then
it should be replaced immediately.
Latest Innovation
High-pressure shocks work great, but in the past many have delivered a
slightly stiffer ride. To cure this problem a new shock absorbing system has
been invented. This system is known as inertia active system that allows
their shocks to operate effectively under various road conditions. The new
system shock absorber is very useful for the SUVs. This allows the shock
absorber to switch instantly between a firm setting for smooth conditions
and a soft setting for rough surfaces.

The firm setting of this new shock absorber, allows the vehicle to have
good handling and control with less body roll during highway and normal
street driving. When conditions get rough, such as going over pot holes or
dirt roads, the unique valve in the Ricor system opens, creating softer
operation that allows the shock to absorb these rough surfaces.
Apart from this unique system, these shock absorbers also equipped with
polyurethane bushings, leak-free construction and a heavy-duty piston rod
that can withstands lots of abuse. We also noticed that the shock housing
was also inverted from the original shocks, placing the piston shaft at the
bottom of the shock rather than on top. This helps to protect the main body
of the shock from coming in contact with any debris and dirt which can dent
or damage the outer case of the shock.
What Shocks and Struts Do
The SUV shock absorbers and struts just like any other normal shock
absorber are used for dampening spring oscillations. The suspension
moves up and down as soon as the wheel strikes the bump or a dip in the
road. The suspension is kept under the control by creating a calibrated
amount of resistance thereby giving smooth ride. |
