Rear
shock absorber as the name suggests are positioned at the rear wheels of
bike, bicycle, passenger cars etc., to in order to absorb shock to rear
wheels. Traditional rear shock absorber utilizes spring for cushioning.
However, the spring was unable to overcome the shocks and vibrations that
are caused by the rough and rugged roads. Moreover, it is a tendency of the
spring to recoil or get back to its position after the impact of the bumps
or vibration from the road.
The disadvantages attached to conventional rear shock absorber were
addressed by new double-acting hydraulic shock absorbers and shock absorber
struts. These shock absorbers have universal applications. They are used in
different types of vehicles and ensure good and smooth ride.
Operating Principle
The rear hydraulic shock absorber operates by forcing fluid through
restricting openings in the valves. The restricted openings result in the
restricted flow that not only slow down the movement of the spring but also
control the frequent and fast movement in the car springs as they react to
road irregularities.
The spring loaded valve control the fluid flow from the piston. The rear
shock absorber has good adaptability and it can adapt itself to the severity
of the shock. The slow movement of the axle results in the light resistance
to the flow of fluid. Whereas in case of faster movement, the resistance is
stronger because the required time to force the fluid through the opening is
more. These actions and subsequent reaction gives the soft ride over small
bumps.
Features
Rear shock absorber has following features:
- Rear shock absorber has good compression adjustability both at the
high speed as well as low speed.
- It has an excellent rebound adjustability.
- It is hard anodized and last longer.
- Being a durable device it enables you to travel more without any
problem.
- Some of the rearshock absorber are fully adjustable and can be
modified or rebuilt.
- The springs used in the rear shock absorber can be of different
types. Modern rear shock absorber uses high tensile chrome silicon
springs.
- Bearings used at the both end are made of stainless steel.
Applications
Rear shock absorber is used in different types of vehicles to prevent the
rear vehicles from bumps and rug roads. The vehicles in which they are used
are:
- Two wheeler bike
- Four wheeler vehicles especially small passenger cars
- Bicycles
