Pneumatic
shock absorber is an important shock absorber that functions by using a
cushion of air for absorbing shock. This shock absorber consist of a
cylinder and a piston which defines a pressure chamber in the cylinder.
These shock absorber consist of inlet and the outlet passage. The outlet
passage communicates with the pressure chamber whereas, the inlet passage is
connected with the external compressed air source. Inlet and the outlet
passage contains a check valve and an adjustable relief valve respectively.
In pneumatic shock absorber, Compression of a gas, acts like a spring as
the air pressure is building to resist the force on it. An air dashpots act
like hydraulic dashpots, once the air pressure reaches the necessary
maximum.
General Features
Pneumatic shock absorber consist or certain general features which are as
follows:
- These shock absorber are constructed out of durable materials.
- They are easy to maintain and install.
- Excellent performance thereby ensuring safe vehicle handling and
reliability.
- Designed to withstand heavy stress.
- Damping is consistent even over a wide temperature range because most
of them use high temperature resistant sealing system and hydraulic
fluid. The absorbing reaction under all conditions is also very good.
What is an oleo-pneumatic shock
absorber?
An oleo-pneumatic shock absorber is a device is engineered for slowing
down a moving mass. The shock absorber converts the kinetic energy of
the moving device into heat due to the friction of oil being driven
through narrow orifices. In conventional spring, the kinetic energy so
converted is stored as elastic deformation energy and not dissipated. In
traditional spring resistance is higher over the stroke, whereas an
oleo-pneumatic shock absorber rapidly increases resistance to a certain
maximum. Thus for an equal maximum resistance, the oleo-pneumatic shock
absorber decelerate moving mass over a much shorter distance. |
Non-adjustable pneumatic shock absorber

Non-adjustable
pneumatic shock absorber normally are used for high speed material handling
systems. The higher speeds of the handling system can cause damage to the
system and the products because of rapid acceleration/deceleration speeds
generated. However the non adjustable pneumatic shock absorber absorbs and
smoothen the rapid acceleration/deceleration, thereby giving smooth ride and
better control.
