nonadjustable shock absorber or self compensating shock absorber is a device
that is capable accommodating varying weights and propelling force, and
provides a specific deceleration or reaction force. This shock provides dual
function metering that combines soft contact dampening with the self
compensating ability to decelerate a wide range of weights.
Non adjustable shock absorber consists of following components :
- A low pressure zone
- A hydraulic cylinder (with a high pressure zone chamber)
- Piston (in cylinder) which moves under a shock load through a
predetermined stroke length
The shock absorber also contains a fluid pathway metering control with
generally four fluid metering pathways. The three fluid metering pathways
are meant for controlling high pressure fluid which escapes from high
pressure zone chamber into the lower pressure zone, ahead of the piston. The
fluid flows ahead as the piston moves from an initial position to a final
piston in response to a shock load through a total stroke. This results in
the creation of five control zones during the compression of the shock
absorber.
Non adjustable shock absorber or the fixed shock absorber consist of
orifices drilled along the inner cylinder wall at certain distances. These
shock absorbers are designed for a specific application's load range. In
high volume applications they are more economical.
The fact remains that the self-compensating shocks or non adjustable shocks
reflects minor variations in reaction force with variations in weights and
velocities. These forces though will be higher than tuned adjustable shock,
but still well within acceptable limits. These shocks moreover do not have a
uniform orifice diameter. Keeping in mind the predetermined range of initial
conditions, the size and location of each orifice is designed.
The main of non adjustable shock absorber is that it provides good
deceleration even though input conditions change.
