There are two
independent systems on which the functioning of the four wheels of the car
functions. There are two axles- front and the rear that connects the front
and the rear wheels respectively. This clearly shows that a car can have a
different type of suspension on the front and back. The front suspension can
be of following types depending on the configurations:

Dependent Front Suspensions
Rigid axle connects the front wheel in the dependent front suspension. It
resembles like a solid bar and is placed under the front of the car. The
dependent front suspension is kept intact by leaf springs and shock
absorbers.
Independent Front Suspensions
In independent front suspension system, the front wheels usually move
independently. The MacPherson strut or the the double-wishbone suspension
are the most widely used front suspension system. Shock absorber and a coil
spring are joined into a single unit in the MacPherson strut. The
double-wishbone suspension consist of two mounting positions one to the
frame and other at the wheel. This type of suspension contains a shock
absorber and a coil spring which absorbs shocks and vibrations.
