Automotive Suspensions

SuspensionSuspension is the most important part of any vehicles as they not only provide better handling and braking but also provides smooth and bump free ride. The suspension also protects the vehicles from damage and wear. The whole system comprises of chasis, springs and shock absorber.

Springs that are popularly used in the suspension system are coil springs, torsion bars and leaf springs. Coil springs are used commonly in modern day cars. It is infact heavy-duty torsion bar coiled around an axis. It functions by compressions and expressions. Leaf springs are mostly used in heavy duty vehicles. They resemble like layers of metal connected to the axle. The movement of the suspension causes them to twists the shaft along their length, which in turn resist. These springs can be used both bat the front end or at the rear end of the suspension.

Types of Car Suspension
Car suspensions can be categorized as follows: The most important part of any suspension system is the shock absorber. The shock absorber absorbs bumps in the road and prevents the shock from being transmitted to the car chassis. Moreover it keeps the wheels of the car planted on the road.

Conventional Suspension System
Conventional suspension Systems consist of two control arms that are attached to the frame of the car. The coil spring and shock absorber of the car are attached to the frame and one of the control arms. The spring and shock absorber both gives the smooth ride over the roughness of the road.
